Gilda's Club Madison, Wisconsin
Leo Cancer Care’s mission is to "be the more human way to treat cancer," yet we know that our contribution is a fraction of complete patient cancer care. We chose, therefore, to align ourselves with other people and organizations whose focus and commitment mirrored ours. As the search began for like-minded partnerships, we were surprised to find one of our first partners literally, in our backyard!
Gilda's Club Madison, WI, moved into their beautiful, expansive clubhouse in October 2008. As part of the Cancer Support Community, one of the largest providers of cancer support worldwide, Gilda's Club exists to provide free emotional support, cancer education, and hope to children and adults living with cancer of any kind. They are dedicated to ensuring that all people impacted by cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action, and sustained by community.
We were excited to contact Lannia Stenz, Executive Director and CEO of Gilda's Club, Madison. Not only did we want her to see what we were doing with radiation therapy in treating cancer, but we also wanted to learn more about the complete cancer journey from her and her team. We were not disappointed:
They helped us find cancer survivors who were willing to serve on our newly formed Patient Advisory Board (PAB).
We became enthusiastic sponsors for their annual Gilda's Club Backyard BBQ.
Lannia and her team graciously hosted our first PAB luncheon in their spacious Community Room.
We trained and certified their staff in American Red Cross CPR, AED, and First Aid.
As Lannia so kindly wrote:
It's a pleasure to partner with Leo Cancer Care! Their team has given a great deal of consideration to patient needs as they shape the future of radiation. They have demonstrated a holistic approach to cancer care that coincides well with the mission of Gilda's Club Madison. I am excited to see the patient experience change as Marie and upright radiation become the norm. -Lannia Stenz, Executive Director/CEO of Gilda's Club Madison, WI
It has been a wonderful learning journey and partnership. As Winston Churchill said,
We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.
May the giving continue for years to come.
PLEASE NOTE: The Leo Cancer Care technology is not currently available to treat patients and is in the process of gaining regulatory approval.
